Your fashion round-up for 2020 so far

As we move from what has felt like the longest month ever and head towards spring/summer fashions, we take a look at some of the latest headlines and what the clear focus is for the fashion industry in 2020.

Empowering Females

Empowering women and focusing on women’s rights and issues has helped to kick start 2020.  From the designs we see hitting the catwalks, to the models used, the focus on female CEOs, how they got to where they are now, and more.

For Vogue, in particular, the all-female DJ Collective is currently leading the way in this empowerment, continuing to break down barriers and raise awareness.

The Guardian is also keen to emphasize these points with further articles on representation in fashion (a big point as we move into 2020).

Award Season

Award season is now well underway, and the red carpet has seen a plethora of amazing outfits and styles.

As well as maybe…not so great looks and trends.

With all the glitz and glamour of the Oscars, the star-studded guests and their outfits did not disappoint.

Named as some of the best dressed in Hollywood, Natalie Portman looked stunning in Dior, Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren, Regina King in Versace, Billie Eilish in Chanel, and the amazing Olivia Colman who wowed in Stella McCartney – to name just a few!

The red-carpet awards have also seen a lot of vintage as well as upcycled clothes and gowns.

Paving the way for further concepts on sustainability and lasting impact, as well as creating an excellent opening for fashion designers to explore those more vintage looks and styles.

Sustainability

You will hear this word within the fashion industry now and for years to come as there is a big, and we mean huge movement towards reducing the negative impact the fashion industry has on our planet.

With headlines from the Business of Fashion already focusing on the fashion rental market, how this is growing and how you could make it work, top sustainable brands, and what we can learn from them, as well as fabrics that can help to clean the air – sustainability and how brands can be more environmentally friendly is a concept that is here to stay!
