You Get What You Focus On: Shifting Our Attention to Brilliant Men

Table of Contents

You get what you focus on and lately, my attention has been on men like Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump. Yikes!

Men who represent abuse of power, exploitation, and ego. The facts are serious, but spending too much time on them produces a predictable result: a narrowed, distorted picture of humanity.

I genuinely believe the world is good, filled with people quietly doing amazing things. Human nature is not fundamentally corrupt, and the world is not broken.

Unfortunately, what is harmful always takes the limelight. Outrage travels fast. Men who cause damage dominate attention because loudness and spectacle amplify them. Meanwhile, men who act with restraint, responsibility, and long-term thinking continue their work mostly unseen.

For thoughtful, creative people, this matters. What you take in becomes the raw material for how you think, decide, and create. When attention is saturated with distortion, judgment becomes reactive, and energy drains.

When you deliberately focus on positive examples, everything looks better. You regain calm, stability and can think more clearly.

The world isn’t broken; our attention is simply misallocated.

There are men alive today who embody restraint, generosity, responsibility, and quiet leadership. They don’t dominate headlines because their work isn’t driven by ego. It’s consistent. Ethical.and often private. And yet, their impact is real — in how they treat others, how they use power, and how they choose not to exploit attention for personal gain.

So here you are. Five men whose lives point toward what is right in the world — not because they are perfect, but because their choices and patterns are steady, ethical, and inspiring.

Dear world, if we focus on more of this, can we please have more?

Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves has built a career and public persona around humility, generosity, and integrity. Despite enormous fame and wealth, he consistently avoids using his position to dominate or exploit others. He donates substantial portions of his earnings to crew members, charities, and medical research, often without public recognition. Reeves treats colleagues and fans with kindness and respect, modeling dignity without self-aggrandizement or moral performance. His consistency under intense scrutiny demonstrates how restraint and decency can coexist with influence and success.

David Attenborough
Sir David Attenborough has dedicated his life to documenting the natural world and educating millions about biodiversity, conservation, and environmental responsibility. His authority is calm, evidence-based, and never sensationalized. Over decades, he has combined meticulous observation with storytelling that engages audiences while fostering real understanding. Attenborough’s work is a testament to the power of long-term commitment, expertise, and integrity in shaping awareness and care for the planet.

Philip Wollen
Australian philanthropist and animal rights advocate Philip Wollen has dedicated his life and resources to promoting kindness to all living beings. He supports healthcare initiatives, environmental causes, and youth development through his Winsome Constance Kindness Trust, which has helped hundreds of initiatives across dozens of countries while remaining a low‑profile example of principled giving.

Bryan Stevenson
Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, has devoted decades to confronting systemic injustice in the United States. He combines legal expertise with compassion, persistence, and a refusal to dehumanize anyone — even those society considers irredeemable. Stevenson’s approach emphasizes fairness, moral courage, and long-term change, not headline-grabbing acts or outrage. His work shows how intellect and empathy can reshape legal systems and restore trust in institutions.

Barack Obama
Former U.S. President, author, and public speaker. Obama is widely recognized for his calm, measured approach to leadership and his emphasis on dialogue, inclusivity, and evidence-based policy. Since leaving office, he has focused on civic engagement, the Obama Foundation, mentorship, and initiatives that empower young leaders globally. His work reflects long-term vision, ethical responsibility, and quiet impact rather than spectacle or sensationalism.

Disclaimer: Currently, these men aren’t implicated in any wrongdoing — and I have full faith in them, but of course, I can’t see the future, so apologies if anything ever comes up 😄
